Travel Insurance for Over 70
There is something unique about the current generation of pensioners – they like to enjoy life by living abroad or traveling abroad frequently. The newly retired expect a lot more out of life and use retirement to experience and see many new things. There are many over 70’s that are looking to travel to exotic locations or maybe just to visit relatives living in another country. When you travel over 70, the issue of health is a pressing concern. You need to be prepared for medical emergencies. You need travel insurance for over 70.
The unfortunate thing about getting old is that your health declines. You may suffer from some sort of pre existing medical condition, be recovering from a serious illness or just feeling the effects of age. The bottom line is that the older you are the more prone to accidents and health problems you are.
While this is part of the aging process and completely natural, insurance companies see this as a big liability. This means that over 70’s are penalized for their age with huge insurance premiums or just outright denied coverage. This many seem somewhat unfair but insurance brokers only determine insurance on the basis of risk and are general about the way the categorize their policies.
You may be complexly healthy and never have had an ailment in your live, but you will still be counted a high risk. Basically, if you are over 70, it can be a challenge to find insurance coverage for traveling.
The first thing to do is to decide whether you should get an annual multi trip insurance policy. If you are going to travel regularly, it’s cheaper to get holiday insurance as an annual policy – this means you will be covered for an entire year, rather than having to constantly sign up for new insurance plans.
So if you have plans for traveling more than twice in a year, it’s worth considering annual holiday insurance for over 70 as you can save a lot of money.
When shopping around for cheap travel insurance for over 70, cheap cheap is not always the best option to take. Cheap insurance polices will invariably cut a lot of corners to give you a cheaper price. Those corners may be exactly what you end up needing coverage for!
When you look at getting an insurance policy, you will need to make sure your policy has medical insurance, repatriation insurance if you need to be flown home, remote rescue insurance, and regular protection against theft etc.
You also need to consider how much you will have to pay to make a claim. For example, making a claim for a digital camera theft may require you to pay $400 – worth more than the camera. So take this into consideration when you get a plan.
